FAITH WELCA ACTING BOLDLY

What is Faith WELCA? It’s any woman in the church who wants to act boldly in her faith – there is no age limit! Opportunities are boundless!

Yes, Faith WELCA has a “Board,” but don’t let that scare you; there’s nothing formal about it. The FWELCA Board meets monthly, except June, July and December. All meetings are open to anyone in the church to attend. Perhaps you have a good idea. Perhaps you have an interesting talent, or hobby you would like to share. Perhaps you would like to start another women’s circle. Or maybe you just might want to get involved with the women of the church – quilting, making prayer shawls, packing up school kits. If you are one of these persons, please plan to attend a Board meeting and get involved.

What’s coming up for FWELCA? Lots of great ideas were tossed around at the August 15 meeting. Here’s the plan for Acting Boldly in the coming months. Some ideas are under development – lacking details, so keep watching our bulletin board and Faith Lines.

Sept. 12 – 1:30 p.m. – FWELCA Board Meeting
Sept. 26 – FWELCA Annual meeting and election of officers at a place to be decided.
Sept. 29-30 – WELCA Southern Ohio Synod Biennial Convention – Chillicothe, OH
Oct. 10 – 1:30 p.m. – FWELCA Board Meeting
Oct. 11 – Time to ship off all those SCHOOL KITS for Lutheran World Relief
Oct. 14 – Summer Adventures/family potluck – Following 10:30 a.m. worship two young women of our church will take us on a trip through their summer adventures to far off countries. Bring a dish to share.
Nov. 14 – 1:30 p.m. – FWELCA Board Meeting
Nov. 18 – Traditional FWELCA Thank Offering Service (have you been saving pennies?) – gifts to bring – Operation Christmas Child and Knox County Interchurch
Dec. 4 – (weather permitting) Annual Faith Women Bible Study/Potluck Luncheon at the home of Betty McDonald
Jan. 9 – 1:30 p.m. FWELCA Board Meeting
Feb. 5 – Shrove Tuesday Mardi Gras/Pancake Supper
Feb. 15 – 1:30 p.m. FWELCA Board Meeting
Mar. 12 – 1:30 p.m. FWELCA Board Meeting
Mar. 14-15 – Mount Vernon Naz Woman’s Auxiliary Annual Retreat (great program this year – mark your calendar and watch for details)
April – Book Drive for Kids – April is Child Abuse Prevention Month – Wear a Blue Ribbon and buy a children’s book (donations of slightly used books will be accepted) These books will go toward the Knox County Job and Family Services Books and Bears program.
Apr. 9 – 1:30 p.m. – FWELCA Board Meeting
May 14 – 1:30 p.m. – FWELCA Board Meeting – it’s Dogwood Time at Faith! We will be celebrating the blooming of this meaningful blossom with special family activities – stay tuned!
July 2008 – 7th Triennial Gathering of WELCA – Salt Lake City, UT

In addition to the above two women’s circles are currently meeting. The Mary Martha Circle meets year-around on the second Tuesday at 1:00 p.m., at the church. Bible studies from the Lutheran Women Today are used. This year’s theme is “Blessed to Follow: The Beatitudes as a Compass for Discipleship.” The evening Book Club Circle meets at 6:00 p.m. at Sips Deli, Mount Vernon. If you like to quilt, join our fabulous group of quilters on the third Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. – it is amazing how many quilts are turned out to be sent off to the needy in the world and around home. There is always room for more ideas and activities – so please join in women acting boldly.
